Diego Pinera - Drums

Diego Pinera, the 'Uruguayan Ambassador for Polyrhythm' lives in Berlin since 2006 and impresses the audience with his dynamic drum playing full of intensity.

Diego is born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1981 and begins to play drums at the age of four. His parents Sonja and Ramon support him from the outset and ensure that he gets the best education. At the age of 18 he leaves Uruguay to study at the Universidad de arte y musica in Havana, Cuba, where he gets an opportunity to play with famous Cuban artists such as Enrique Pla (Irakere) and Joaquin Pozo, and learn from them.

A scholarship enables him to further studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he learns from Danilo Perez, and at a four-weeks master seminar in Cuba from the legendary José Luis Quintana, called Changuito and Amadito Valdez. In Boston he records the album 'Ongoing dreams' with edu Tancredi, where also Antonio Sánchez, Jerry Bergonzi, and Miguel Zenon perform. A commitment with the SHAKIRA tour band is a further highlight of his career.

Diego is official endorser of Meinl Cymbals and Canopus drums since 2009.
