Robby Geerken -
Sin cuero no hay na', which means translated from Spanish 'nothing goes without a skin' is the motto of this thoroughbred percussionist. Already at the age of 15 he begins to play with the Cuban bands in Berlin. Then in 1991, the Cuban percussion legend Jose Luis Quintana, called Changuito decisively shapes his life. One year later he gets his first lessons from him in Cuba and becomes his master student a short time later.
During a 6 month stay of Changuito in Robby's parents' home in Berlin, a deep friendship develops between them.
This opens him the world of studio productions with greats such as Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Chucho Valdez, Jose Neto, Gary Brown, Amampondo, and of course Changuito. It is standing to reason to let perform the young musician in concerts with the best-known groups of Cuba such as Los Van Van, Diakara and Orchesta Reve. Tours lead him to England, France, Poland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria and Holland.
Born in 1976 and raised in Berlin he completes a 5-year education at the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' and the Jazz Institut Berlin in 2008. As a demanded live and studio musician he passes his knowledge and his experience with academic workshops and classes at music schools.
