Simon Harrer -
To be compared with Tommy Dorsey among big band quarters, only partially meets his virtuosity. A musician colleague, who called him a 'grenade at the trombone' is more to be true. Not only beeing a demanded player in the Berlin jazz scene, he also can be heard on CDs of 2Raumwohnung, Seeed und Peter Fox.
Beside with Son Madol his trombone can be heard with the big band of Gitte Heanning, as well as the Rias big band, the Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, Marc Secara’s Berlin Jazz Orchestra, Will Salden's Glenn Miller Orchestra, Super 700, the Nürnberg Sunday Night Orchestra, Christoph Adam’s Bossa No Piano, Johannes Lauer Bigband Lauer Large, Andrej Hermlin's Swing Dance Orchestra and the Leipzig big band Spielvereinigung Süd.
Born in 1978 and raised in the small town Stockach at the Lake Constrance, he moves to Berlin after Abitur and civilian service, and begins to study jazz at the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler', with Jiggs Whigham und Sören Fischer. Since his diploma in 2004 he is working as a free lancer.
As teacher for jazz trombone he works at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig since 2006 and finally becomes leader of the university big band of Magdeburg.
